Shoreland Rules set minimum standards for development of property within 1000 feet of bodies of water 25 acres or larger.

The last time the rules were revised was 1989.  In 1997 the Minnesota legislature called for the MN DNR to revise the rules.

The rules are extensive, and concern measures to protect adjacent bodies of water from harmful water runoff, set density standard for various types of housing, and set minimum standards for lot sizes among other items.
