Some great news: The Lake Volney Association has received the 2011 Lake Association of the year award. We are very honored to receive this award. For more information see a big news story link to the left. There are more than 668 Lake Associations in Minnesota.
Congratulations to the members of the Lake Volney Association. The efforts of our lakeshore owners and members of lva have resulted in progress towards better water quality. Way to go!
It is very nice to be recognized for our efforts and receive this very highly valued award. Thank you Minnesota Waters staff and Board of Directors. Board of Directors and Members of the Lake Volney Association.
We are making progress. 12/2/2011 Lake Volney secci disk water clarity readings: 2011 June 7 feet, July 11 feet, August 15 feet, September 20 feet.
We have worked towards water quality improvement since 1984. Our partners are Le Sueur County, DNR, MPCA, the Cannon River Watershed Partnership, Mn. State University, Minnesota Waters, the Lake Detective Steve McComas, and others.
We are working to restore Lake Volney to a great swimming lake like it was all in the 1960's and 70's. At that time it the residents of Le Sueur County could go swimming at the public beach. (only public beach in Le Sueur County) There was a large swimming dock and raft. The lake water was clear all summer. Students were bused out to Lake Volney for swimming lessons.
We still have a lot of work to do. We need to reduce the phosphorous amount in coming into the lake and in the lake now so that Lake Volney can be taken off the MPCA imparied waters list.
