ASIAN CARP, AN ENVIRONMENTAL EMERGENCY !!!

I just received this mailing from MSRPO, the Minnesota Seasonal and

Recreational Property Owners Coalition, Inc. I have been a member of

MSRPO for many years. This organization works hard to protect seasonal

property owners but they also work to protect Minnesota's lakes and

streams. I have provided a link below to access their recent mailing entitled

"Stop Asian Carp and Zebra Mussels". I'm sure you are all aware of the

potential dangers these foreign invaders present and I urge you to read this

article to get a current update on the status of this invasion. Just click on

the "Asian Carp" link below.

SLA Fall Annual Meeting

The SLA Annual Meeting was held on September 4 at

Ruttger's Sugar Lake Lodge.

The social hour and registration began at 5:30 p.m. and 70

people were in attendance.  President Roger Anderson

convened the meeting which was followed by an excellent

Chef's Choice buffet dinner. Seconds were available despite

the larger than expected turnout.

The business meeting followed the dinner.  Minutes of

the 2010 Annual Meeting the Treasurer's report were read

and approved by the membership.

Sheriff Vic Williams gave a short presentation which

emphasized the importance of ongoing communication with

the Sheriff's Department in both emergency and non-

emergency situations.  The Sheriff's Department provides

police service for our area and the Department should be

contacted at the emergency 911 number or the non-

emergency number 326-3477.  Our thanks to Sheriff

Williams.

Sharon Streetar introduced the main speaker, Mr. Ben

Lakish.  Ben is the ICC Water Quality Lab Coordinator.  He

gave a summary of the lab's activities since it's inception in

2008, including a review of their testing instrumentation and

methods of sample collection.  There are four lakes

currently in focus for monitoring/testing.

A 2011 Lake Steward Award was presented to Don Osell

for his many years of work in support of the Siseebakwet

Lakes community.  Don asked SLA members to continue

being his eyes and ears for topics of interest for his "Wild

Side" articles.  Congratulations Don, and Thank You!!

Board election results were announced.  Elected

Directors are Lynda Grantges, Bill Grantges and Dianne

Herendeen.  There were several write-in candidates.

NOTE: The 2011 SLA Map can still be obtained for a

minimum donation of $15 by calling Dianne Herendeen at

326-8487.
