OSSIE LEISUREWEAR AND OTHER MERCHANDISE IS HERE FOR YOUR SHOPPING PLEASURE! ORDER NOW! We all see the navigation buoys on Lake Ossawinnamakee every time we go boating. They provide an important safety function, alerting boaters to shallow water, submerged hazards and no-wake zones. They appear on the lake each spring and are removed each fall with little notice. What you don't see is important. The Ossawinnamakee Property Owners Association (OPOA) is solely responsible for the navigation buoys on our lake. The funds to pay all costs associated with the placement, removal, inspection, maintenance, repair and replacement of the buoys come directly from the Association. The OPOA receives no outside funds from the County, DNR or any other source. Until recently, OPOA members volunteered their time and performed all the work associated with the buoys. This was a big dirty job! To those who have volunteered over the years - THANK YOU! In 2007, OPOA hired RICKA Mfg. to remove and store the buoys. As part of this service, each buoy will be assigned GPS coordinates. Now there will be no more guesswork and the buoys will be placed in the same locations every year. RIKA Mfg. will also be performing most of the other work associated with the buoys, including placement in the spring. In the fall of 2007, volunteers numbered each buoy. Now if a wayward buoy washes up on your shore, all you need to do is contact any one of the board members. The number on the buoy tells us exactly where it goes and we will send someone out to take care of it. If you don't contact us, we won't know about it. So please let us know if you see a buoy out of place. The money to pay for the buoys comes directly from the annual dues paid by association members. For the OPOA to continue this service we need more of our neighbors to join the association and pay their annual dues. If you are not currently a member of the association, please consider joining now so that we may continue with this important service. Safe Boating......... Please submit comments and suggestions here. The Winter/Spring 2012 Newsletter will be available on line and in members' mailboxes in March 2012. | Maintaining a Lake-Friendly Shoreline Please click here for an easy to use brochure describing the importance of natural shorelines and how they keep our lakes healthy, clean and enjoyable.

LOW IMPACT BOATING Studies show that high speed watercraft and high powered motors, especially in depths of less than 18 feet, have deterimental impact on water clarity, shoreline erosion, and wildlife habitat. Please check out the Low Impact Boating Guide in the News and Notes section.
