An Overview of the Lake

Lake Miltona is a popular, 5,838 acre, heavily developed recreational lake located in Douglas County about eleven miles North of Alexandria, MN. The lake offers diverse habitat and structure; including extensive shallow flats, submerged islands and bars, and depths down to 100 feet. Water quality and clarity are considered good. Seechi disk transparency is usually ten feet or greater during summer months.

Lake Miltona supports an abundant and diverse aquatic plant community, including large beds of hardstem bulrush. These aquatic plants provide important spawning and cover habitat for many fish species. They also help to maintain water quality and protect the shoreline from wave and boat traffic induced erosion.

Primary fisheries management is directed towards walleye. Black crappie and smallmouth bass also contribute to the quality fishery on Lake Miltona. Lake Miltona is also a popular spot for muskie anglers. The lake supports a quality muskellunge population, stocked in alternate years by the DNR.

Photos

LMA members are invited to submit photos for the slide show atop our web pages.  The photos should include the lake or something closely related to the lake.  The guidelines are that they should be formatted into a 170 x 960 pixel size, other sizes submitted will be combined into collages including the contributors name.  A new set will be posted monthly. Unless noted otherwise, the photos are from LABenson's collection - a pdf file of previously shown photos is available.
