Are you considering renting your lake home/cabin to others on a weekly basis for family gatherings, weddings, and weekend getaways? Under Douglas County’s zoning ordinance, renting a residential home out on a weekly basis is illegal. It only allows homes to be rented out in time frames greater than 30 days.
About the ordinance:
Resorts or commercial planned unit developments both require conditional use permits because they’re located in residential shoreland areas. There are also typically buffer zones between resorts and the surrounding residential homes.
While the ordinance allows homeowners to rent out their homes in time frames greater than 30 days, it does not allow such short-term rentals, i.e. weekend or one week or multiple week rentals.
