The 2008-2009 Becker County Lake Monitoring Grant
In 2007, the Becker Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) received a Legacy Grant from the Minne- sota Pollution Control Agency to pay for the costs of Monitoring Becker lakes which had not previously been monitored. Bob Taylor, Chairman of COLA’s Monitoring Committee, was asked to recommend Becker lakes which had insufficient monitoring data; the Monitoring Committee assisted in the implementation of this program in 2008 and 2009.
This program assisted twenty-five lakes, including six COLA lakes - Buffalo, Rice, Rock, Strawberry and Two Inlets—to establish a monitoring program. COLA’s Monitoring Committee Chair, Bob Taylor was instrumental in recruiting, training, and monitoring the volunteers for these lakes. Moriya Rufer, or RMB Labs helped select lakes, summarized the monitoring results, and wrote the final grant report.
